CHAI’s partner, Concept Foundation, launches two RFPs for preeclampsia biomarker assays under SUPREME-SECURE

SUPREME-SECURE is a Unitaid-funded program working to strengthen sustainable access to quality-assured diagnostics and treatments for preeclampsia, eclampsia, and maternal anemia in sub-Saharan Africa. CHAI is leading this initiative in partnership with Concept Foundation, Aurum Institute, Burnet Institute, and WACI Health.

As part of the programme’s work to strengthen access to quality-assured, affordable diagnostics, Concept Foundation is now accepting two Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from manufacturers of point-of-care preeclampsia biomarker assays. Through these RFPs, SUPREME-SECURE aims to identify promising technologies for independent evaluation, regulatory advancement, and introduction in low- and middle-income countries.

RFP 1 (PE003): Near Point-of-Care sFlt-1 and/or PlGF Assays

  • Product category: quantitative immunoassay for angiogenic biomarkers associated with placental dysfunction, for use as an aid in diagnosing preeclampsia.
  • Intended use: aid in diagnosis and short-term prediction (rule in/out) of preeclampsia in pregnant women with suspected disease, used alongside standard-of-care assessment.
  • Target population: pregnant women from 20+0 weeks gestational age with suspected preeclampsia.

RFP 2 (PE004): Minimally Invasive Biomarkers

  • Product category: point-of-care assay detecting biomarkers associated with preeclampsia, using minimally invasive specimens (capillary blood, urine, or saliva), for screening and/or diagnosis.
  • Intended use: early risk screening and/or aid in diagnosis and short-term prediction (rule in/rule out) of preeclampsia, used alongside standard-of-care assessment.
  • Target population: pregnant women under 20 weeks gestational age (early risk screening) and/or from 20+0 weeks with suspected preeclampsia (diagnosis and short-term prediction).

Target countries for both RFPs include Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal, Tanzania, and South Africa, with potential for broader LMIC reach.
