This call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) solicits responses from innovators interested in developing a new blood lead level (BLL) diagnostic. The ambition of this program is to develop and commercialize a new diagnostic test meeting the specifications defined in the Target Product Profile published by the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and Renaissance Philanthropy.
EOI information and submission information
- EOI submissions are due December 4 2026.

Program phases
Over the next 5 years, our program will partner with a cohort of innovators to support development across three phases:
- Development of a functional prototype
- Clinical validation
- Commercialization (including manufacturing)
We encourage both single-entity and consortium applicants; your organization does not need to have every capability in-house to apply.
What selected innovators receive
Innovators selected through our upcoming Request for Proposals (RFP) process will be offered upfront funding and a series of milestone payments, along with technical, clinical, regulatory, and commercial assistance, for achieving concrete, independently verified progress toward a commercialized diagnostic test.
This call for EOI is issued by CHAI and Renaissance Philanthropy with support from multiple philanthropic donors.
“The Global Framework to End Childhood Lead Poisoning calls for representative blood lead data and routine surveillance. This requires tests that work across settings, including where the burden is highest, and that can become feasible and affordable when scaled across multiple countries. An easy-to-use blood lead test would let more countries measure exposure, trace sources, target interventions, and track progress toward the Framework’s 2040 goal.” —Partnership for a Lead Free Future
