Dr. Brenda Asiimwe Kateera is Regional Vice President for Eastern Africa at CHAI, leading strategy, programmatic performance, and people development across the CHAI offices in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. A physician and public health specialist with more than 23 years of experience, she has deep expertise in health systems strengthening, disease elimination, and AI and digital health integration.

Dr. Kateera also serves as CHAI’s Country Director in Rwanda, where she is a trusted strategic advisor to the Government of Rwanda across cervical cancer elimination, pandemic preparedness, HIV, maternal and newborn health, primary health care reform, supply chain and health financing. CHAI is a central partner in Rwanda’s flagship digital transformation journey, including the National Health Intelligence Centre.

Dr. Kateera holds an MD from Makerere University and an MPH from Johns Hopkins University. She is a LEAD (Learn, Engage, Advance, Disrupt) Women Leadership Fellow of Harvard School of Public Health and holds an executive certificate in Public Leadership from Harvard Kennedy School. She serves on Rwanda’s National Ethics Committee and National Immunization Technical Advisory Group, on the East African Health Research Commission, and is an inaugural Fellow of the East Central and Southern Africa College of Public Health Physicians.
