Garrett Young

Regional Director, Asia Pacific (Acting); Country Director, Lao PDR

Garrett Young is Acting Regional Director for CHAI’s Asia-Pacific region and Country Director for Lao PDR. In these roles, he supports teams in Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and China to work with governments, development partners, and the private sector to improve quality of care by strengthening primary health care, disease programs, supply chains, and health security.

Garrett joined CHAI as an analyst in Eswatini, working to increase access to pediatric HIV medicines, and later moved to Ethiopia, where he managed the Health Financing program and led CHAI’s first support to the Ethiopian national health insurance program. As Country Director in Lao PDR, he leads a team that has helped the government expand access to vaccines and treatment for HIV and tuberculosis, accelerate progress toward malaria elimination, and build integrated supply chain, digital information, and emergency operations systems. Before joining CHAI, Garrett worked in management consulting in Washington, D.C. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. Outside of CHAI, he volunteers as a leader of a community-owned Montessori school in Vientiane and is active in the local tennis and cycling communities.
