Innovation

The Issue

Half the world still lacks access to basic health services, with 70 percent of this burden concentrated in low- and middle-income countries. These countries also account for 80 percent of all global deaths. Emerging challenges, such as pandemics and antimicrobial resistance, threaten to widen the health equity gap between high-income countries and lower-income ones and leave the most vulnerable people behind.

Meanwhile, recent funding cuts from major donors like the US and UK highlight a critical reality: traditional funding models are no longer sufficient. Innovation is no longer optional—it is essential. In the short term, we must use every scarce dollar to close urgent health gaps. In the long term, we must build stronger, more resilient health systems that can meet the challenges ahead.

CHAI’s Approach

We are uniquely positioned to drive innovation in global health by bridging government, business, and frontline healthcare. We aim to reduce the inequity gap in health outcomes through product innovations such as AI-driven tools, new diagnostics, health technologies, and process innovations, including novel delivery methods, innovative methodologies, market-shaping mechanisms, and data-driven systems to enhance healthcare access and impact.  We lead these efforts by sourcing game-changing solutions, making these solutions affordable and sustainable, and driving rapid global scale-up. The result is transforming millions of lives by addressing critical societal challenges with scalable solutions.

We are currently focused on identifying and scaling the most effective, proven health interventions through our Maximum Impact Incubator. We are also identifying and executing high-impact programming in neglected areas in global health, including priority areas, such as AI for health, lead poisoning, severe mental health conditions, environmental adaptation, and emerging health needs.
